What would you do with $130? When Juana received a $130 loan, she used it to completely transform the quality of her life. Six years ago, she didn’t have a place to live. But she used her loan to buy a variety of products to sell in her corner store, and soon many customers were faithfully buying their groceries and Coca-Cola’s from her. Her profits enabled her to improve her business by purchasing a freezer to store perishable foods and buying popular items in bulk. Most significantly, she explains, “When I started with Adelante, I didn’t have a house. I had a little bit of land and had started to construct, but the house was very small, only up to [my knees]. Then, with the help I got from the loans, I built two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom — until I finished the house.” Juana beams as she reflects on the better life she’s been able to give herself, her husband, and her five children — all through her own hard work.
