Touting Tomasa
Tomasa has been taking and paying back loans from Adelante on and off since 2013. She initially used funds to buy used clothes that sell them from her home with a nominal profit. She bought clothes locally, but switched to purchasing wholesale used clothing from the US due obtaining a visa. In the US she is able to visit family and bring clothes in bulk back down. As Tomasa’s business bloomed, she built on to have and rent out an apartment adjacent to her home, with the proceeds from this, she is now building yet another rental and additional room for her clothing store.
Tomasa said she has a strong client base in her community and when she makes good profits, she often gives extra clothing that hasn’t yet sold at super discounts to clientele which helps them keep coming back for more. All of her unsold clothes get donated to those in need. Tomasa averages a profit of $2 per item, making it a win-win for both her and her shoppers. Tomasa’s husband of fifty years was visually proud of his entrepreneurial wife. When asked what he thought of the business he sported a wide face grin and motioned to his ball cap, explaining he also likes that he gets first dibs.
