John Hatch Stands Behind Adelante

On 8 July 2017, Adelante Board member Bob Sample and his friend, Sue Davis, hosted a house party fundraiser for Fundación Adelante in Denver, CO.  About 30 people attended.  Our speaker was Dr. John Hatch, founder of FINCA, one of the largest microfinance institutions in the world.  John is also one of three organizers of the original Microcredit Summit (1997), co-founder of the Microcredit Summit Campaign, and the “father” of the village banking model of microfinance.  John inspired the crowd with moving stories of his early experiences that led to his lifelong commitment to ending poverty and the funny story of his “aha” moment when he was on an airplane drinking a double bourbon and the idea of microcredit came to him in a flash of inspiration.  At the end of his presentation, this very special person shocked the crowd with a pledge to match all donations raised that evening.  Partially as a result of John’s match, we raised over $13,000 at the event.  So it was both an inspiring and effective fundraiser.  Funds raised that evening will go to assisting many more impoverished Honduran women in their quest to rise out of poverty.
