A Life Changed Changing the Lives of Others: The Story of an Outstanding Credit Officer

Our Credit Officers are the boots on the ground for Adelante Foundation. They are the field workers who directly serve and assist our clients on a regular basis. They work six days a week to ensure that the women entrepreneurs of Adelante are receiving the best microfinance and educational services possible. We thank them for the diligence and passion they have brought towards improving communities in 2014.

This past Saturday at our annual Christmas dinner, we celebrated the life and work of Adelante credit officer, Wuilmer Miranda. His wife Bianca, and their delightful 6-month-old baby Angeli also came to share in the celebration.

Wuilmer has worked hard all of his life to support others and better himself. He grew up in Santa Barbara, Honduras where he attended school up until the 4th grade, all the while toiling in the fields to make a living. At eleven, he moved northeast to El Progreso to find better job opportunities. He worked in kitchens, auto shops–any jobs he could find.

At 18, Wuilmer decided to go back to school, investing in his own middle school and high school education. After years of dedication to his work and studies, hecompleted his goal to obtain his high school diploma.

Empowered by his new education, Wuilmer joined our Adelante team in May of 2012. He immediately built trust with his clients, having experienced so many of the same struggles. The women were struck by his humility and his calm yet inspiring presence.

“Life is so difficult for these women. We have a great impact here in Honduras –the work is truly satisfying. By being a part of Adelante, many women have seen their lives change for the better.”

With the launch of the educational loan this year, Wuilmer was able to reach the highest number of women in need out of all of our credit officers. His support allowed 49 mothers to afford the uniforms and supplies their children needed to attend school. He holds schooling as vital to these communities, as educational opportunity recently changed his own life.

Where he has seen even more immediate impact, however, has been in the Home Improvement Loans that he has provided, giving women the opportunity to make significant changes to their living situations.

“The majority of women I have worked with through the Home Improvement Loan have changed their lives drastically. Now they can live in a dignified home.”

This outstanding credit officer will finish this year with over 450 active clients. Through his integrity, passion, and commitment, he is improving the wellbeing of these women, their families, and their communities. This holiday season we thank Wuilmer for upholding our Adelante mission, providing a hope that will continue on into the new year, and for years to come.
