Tony Stone –
Founder and Chairman of the Board

Tony Stone was raised in La Ceiba, Honduras. He lived there during his Elementary and High School years. He began his fifteen year stint in the United States as a freshman at Stanford University. He was graduated from Stanford in 1988 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, having won many design prizes and awards and having designed and built a working two-man submarine that is on display at the San Francisco Maritime Museum on Pier 39. After Stanford, Tony held a number of design and aerospace jobs, working for McDonnell Douglass, Northrop Grumman, Keiser Marquart, and Aerojet. In 1999, Tony decided to leave aerospace and return to Honduras to found Adelante Foundation. Excited about the opportunity to help his native country and glad to use his technical and management skills in a new arena, Tony enjoys the challenges provided by Adelante and serves on both the Adelante Foundation and Fundación Adelante boards. 

Julio Castillo – President
Julio was born in La Ceiba, Honduras. He received a bilingual elementary and high school education that had great influence on his values and ideals. In 1989 he graduated from the University of Texas (Texas Tech University) with a degree in economics and international business. After graduating he had the opportunity to receive training in a company in Los Angeles in exportation, after which he returned to Honduras. He returned in 1991 to discover that he was really passionate about the ice cream business that his family has ran for four generations. After receiving special training in Chile, Italy and United States he successfully renovated the company, even changing the name to what it is today, NEVADA. Currently, Julio is working on exporting his products to the United States In his free time Julio enjoys time with his family, reading, mountain biking and participating in triathlons.

Dick Hayes - Board Treasurer
Dick is a graduate of the University of Colorado Business School and a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Colorado.  He has worked for over 30 years with small and medium size businesses providing financial, accounting, transactional and tax services.  He currently is the Executive Director of the Stephen B. Hard Foundation, manages the financial and business affairs of several Trusts and family partnerships and is an owner/partner of business interests in Colorado.  Dick served in the Peace Corps in Peru as a financial and planning consultant to agricultural cooperatives.  He is active in Rotary, has served as a National Trustee for Amigos de las Americas and has been active in the committee structure of the Colorado and National CPA organizations.  Dick is married and has two grown daughters.

Kim Stone - Secretary
Kim Stone has been involved with Adelante since its inception - Adelante's first address was her California apartment! Kim lived in Honduras and worked as Adelante's first Director of Development from 2000 to 2005 in both a staff and volunteer capacity. Before moving to Honduras, Kim worked as a Deputy District Attorney for San Mateo County, and as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of California, in San Diego. She is a graduate of Stanford University and Stanford University School of Law. Kim currently lives in Sacramento, California and works as a Legislative Advocate for the Civil Justice Association of California. She is married to Tony Stone and the couple has two children.

Of her experience with Adelante, Kim says, "Seeing Adelante clients transform their lives as a result of micro credit is incredible. I know thousands of women who are now sending their children to school, who now have money to buy medicine when their kids get sick, who now work daily to take care of their families. One woman told me, "Before, I just made tortillas and took care of the kids." Then she stood up straighter, smiled, and looked me in the eye." Now, I am a businesswoman."I am proud to be part of an organization that helps women work their way out of poverty."


Patrick Anderson
Patrick Anderson was born in La Ceiba, Honduras, where he grew up and attended Mazapan Elementary and High School (there he met Adelante founder, Tony Stone). Upon graduation, he moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he pursued a bachelor's degree in journalism, and later a master's degree in geography at Louisiana State University.  He returned to Honduras, and began working as a Social Studies/Humanities teacher at Mazapan, his former school. While working there, he pursued a master's degree in education through a program for teachers working at American schools abroad given by Framingham State College. He completed his M.E. in 2004. His passion for aviation could not be squelched and his dream career came calling. Patrick began studying with Caribbean Flight School in 2004, and received his Commercial Pilot's License in 2006. Presently, Patrick works as a commuter pilot with SOSA airlines. 

Patrick joined Adelante's board because it is a perfect opportunity to give back to his community and region. "When you help out women, entire families see the benefits." Patrick speaks Spanish, English, and basic French. Patrick also enjoys playing the drums, bass, and guitar, and has taken up cooking lately. He lives in La Ceiba with his wife, Sophia, and son, Sergio.


Chris Arias
Chris is another native of La Ceiba and brings twelve years of much needed banking experience to board. After graduating from the National University in Tegucigalpa, Chris obtained a degree in Banking in 1999 from the University of Monterrey in Mexico. Her banking experience includes credit card operations, personnel and customer service management. She currently is the Atlantic Zone Manager for Banco Lafise. When not immersed in finances, Chris finds time to be involved in promoting Honduran tourism and serving on Adelante's board as well the board subcommittee tasked with oversight of Adelante's loan activities.

Liz Dalrymple
Elizabeth Dalrymple is a Vice President and Wealth Management Advisor with Merrill Lynch in Oakland, California. Liz graduated from the University of California, Berrkeley with a B.A. in Spanish. She studied at the University of Madrid, Spain and did graduate work at the American University, Washington D.C.

She served in staff positions in the U.S. Senate and a House of Representatives Subcomittee, and was a founding member of the National Women's Political Caucus, Capital Hill Chapter. Liz returned to California in 1977 and worked on several political campaigns and non-profit organizations.

Over the years, she served on the Board of Directors of a halfway home for women, a shelter for battered women, and was Executive Director of the Oakland Mayor's Summer Jobs Program for youth. She is married to John Kelson and they live in Piedmont, California. They have two children.

Of her experience with Adelante Liz says, "Adelante serves clients who would be invisible to other lending institutions. These are smart, hardworking women who are dedicated to improving their lives and lifting their families out of poverty and within reach of a better life. I can think of no better investment of our time, money and expertise than to promote the spread of Adelante's work."


John Kendall
John became a believer in micro-finance through his friendship with Kim and Tony. John was an early supporter of Adelante and became a board member in 2006. He lives in the San Francisco bay area where he oversees information technology for an international asset management company and is chairman of a clean-combustion R&D firm. He has degrees in Chemical Engineering and Theology.

Belkis Pina Niswonger
Belkis Pina was born and raised in La Ceiba, Honduras.   She attended the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where she got BS and MS degrees in Chemical Engineering.   After graduating, Belkis worked for twenty years in the chemical industry in diverse positions including Process Engineer, Plant Manager, Global Supply Chain Director and Global Business Manager.   She spent more than half her career with Rohm and Haas Co. and through mergers and acquisitions also worked with other large specialty chemicals companies.   In 2007, she left the corporate world to work independently and to be able to get more involved with efforts like Adelante Foundation.

Of her involvement with Adelante Belkis says, "From the first time I learned about Grameen's methodology I was exited about its potential to help alleviate poverty in my native country, Honduras. Fundación Adelante's micro lending and education programs are doing just that; we see the results in the improved quality of life of their clients.   It behooves us to help spread this work!"

Belkis lives in Kentucky with her husband Scott and their three sons.


José Salvador Aguilar Villafranca
José's father is Honduran and his mother is American. When he was eighteen years old, he had to decide which passport he would retain. He chose Honduras; he wanted to stay in the country where he was raised to help make it a better place.

José went on to obtain a degree in law from Georgetown University and currently travels to Miami to complete a Masters of Business Administration from Northwestern University. José is the General Counsel for the Maya Division at The Standard Fruit Company of Honduras.   He is a Senior Manager with expertise in banking and corporate law, litigation, and strategic crisis management. José's passion to help Honduras and strong entrepreneurship aptitude from experience in starting and running several businesses make him is a valued asset to The Adelante Foundation's board.

José lives in La Ceiba with his wife and three children. He contributes to Fundación del Niño con Cancer, a foundation to treat children with cancer, Quod Erit (Latin for "What Will Be"), a foundation to support homeless and orphan children (currently in formation) and Habitat for Humanity.


Pat Wiesner
Pat Wiesner is the retired CEO of Wiesner Publishing, a Colorado Company that publishes a dozen regional and national magazines. It also publishes a number of national insurance industry trade magazines.  He is an active pilot, a partner in Gunnison Valley Aviation in Gunnison Colorado, and does management and sales training for publishing companies. Presently, he serves on the board of Trustees of Western State College, and the Boards of Directors of The Colorado Aeronautical Board  and The Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum. He has served on a number of other Boards in the past. Pat has a B.S. in Physics from Canisius College in Buffalo , N.Y.
Janet Wiesner
Janet graduated from Mundelein College in Chicago and taught Home Economics and Science in the Chicago High School system. She resigned from teaching to have a family and now enjoys her 6 children, their 5 spouses and 13 grandchildren. For many years, she worked as a Realtor in the Denver market and then went on to be a sales executive with Recreational Business Opportunities Magazine and Colorado Biz Magazine.  She was also one of the very first female instructors of the Dale Carnegie Course. For years, she has been active in various charitable organizations and is currently involved as a mentor to women in the Denver Women's Correctional Facility.  Pat and Janet are retired and split their time between Castle Rock, Colorado and the Eastern Seaboard.
